-FAQ-
Head construction?
Our unique manufacturing process combines modern woodworking techniques with the CNC milling traditionally seen in metal putters. All of our putters start off as blocks of stabilized wood or a mixed block of stabilized wood and pressure cast acrylic. We stabilize wood by infusing it with a liquid resin under vacuum before heat curing. This process drastically increases the weight and durability of the wood as well as making it waterproof. These materials will give your putter a soft feel off the face with excellent distance control. The blocks are then precisely CNC milled into the desired head shape with balanced internal weights placed along the perimeter. A high gloss protective finish coat is applied before the shaft and grip are added.
How do they feel?
It will not be a hollow clunk or hard click. CNC milled stabilized wood produces a putter with a feather soft feel and large sweet spot. Mishits on the heel/toe will be felt but still produce a good roll. I'm confident your Van putter will feel as good/better than any metal putter you've played with before regardless of price tag or brand.
What are the specs? Legal?
Our standard specs are a 350g head weight with a 1* loft and 72* lie. Weight/loft/lie can all be customized if you have a preference outside the standard spec. All of our head shapes fall within the rules governing putters.
Durability?
While stabilized wood/acrylic is certainly softer than the stainless steel many putters are made of it is more than durable enough to last for many seasons if you’ll avoid teeing off with it and keep your headcover on when not in use. Stabilized wood/acrylic is waterproof and the high gloss protective coat we use also protects it from UV light and any chemicals that it may come in contact with at the golf course. If your putter gets dirty just wipe with a damp towel, dry, and throw on the headcover.
Where's the face milling or insert?
You may notice face milling or inserts on many putters on the market today. This helps harder materials (like stainless or carbon steel) produce a softer feel off the face. With the feather soft feel naturally produced by stabilized wood these steps are unnecessary in our putters. The face of our putters are still CNC milled only with a flat finish instead of grooved.
